Course descriptions, Lower Intermediate

*There are two streams of Lower Intermediate levels:
A and B. These are at equivalent levels, but they differ in sequence and topics due to the texts that are used.

Lower Intermediate A, Levels 1-5 (15 hrs, 10 weeks each)
These are for students who have completed the Elementary and Upper-Elementary courses, or at least 60 hrs of Spanish. The objectives are:

• Get a grip on verb tenses – preterite, imperfect and future, conditional. These are practised in the following useful contexts:
• Situations connected with daily life such as activities, interests and past experiences, describing situations, talking about and reacting to others, obligation and necessity, telling a story, asking for things, physical states, feelings.

• Textbooks:
  ELE Inicial 2, Libro del Alumno (1 CD) (SM $75),
  ELE Inicial 2, Cuaderno de ejercicios (1 CD) ($44)

Lower Intermediate B, Levels 1-5 (15 hrs, 10 weeks each)
These levels are an alternative stream to the Lower Intermediate A levels. Courses in this stream cover the same topics as those of A stream.

Note: the A stream is not a prerequisite to the B stream, and either may be taken with or without having completed the other. The only difference is that a different text is used.

Course descriptions, Upper Intermediate

*There are two streams of Upper Intermediate levels:
A and B. These are at equivalent levels, but they differ in sequence and topics due to the texts that are used.

Upper Intermediate A, Levels 1-6 (15 hrs, 10 weeks each)
These are for students who have completed around 2 years of Spanish, or 165 hours. We work on consolidating the use of the different past tenses, the introduction of the present subjunctive, description and narration orally and in writing, as well as understanding relatively difficult texts. The text that is used for this series of courses focuses on oral communication. Please note that students who have completed the Upper Intermediate A levels who wish to continue, may progress either to Avanzado levels (A or B), or to Upper Intermediate B levels if they wish to revisit these vital grammatical topics.

Upper Intermediate B, Levels 1-6 (15 hrs, 10 weeks each)
These are for students who have completed around 2 years of Spanish, or 165 hours. These levels are exactly the same as the A-stream, and are suitable for students who would like to have further practice with these important grammatical topics. Please note that Upper Intermediate A is not a pre-requisite for joining an Upper Intermediate B stream.
